Diploma in supply chain management module 1 course outline

Communication skills

This unit uses an experiential and self reflective approach. It aids students in the development of personal strengths and self-awareness that contribute to communication skills and positive relationships with others in daily life and in the workplace. This unit is taught in almost all courses examples certificate in secretarial studies, diploma in human resource management, diploma in road transport management, diploma in clerical duties, diploma in cooperative management, diploma in tour guiding operations among others.

Business law

This course introduces the student to the legal and ethical framework of business. Contracts, negotiable instruments, the law of sales, torts, crimes, constitutional law, the Uniform Commercial Code, and the court
systems are examined. Upon completion the student should be able to identify legal and ethical issues that arise in business decisions and the laws that apply to them.

Economics

The aim of this unit is to provide an introduction to economic concepts and methods of analysis, to enable trainees to understand and use economic arguments in business and decision making in supply chain management. This unit is also taught in diploma in business management, diploma in road transport and management, diploma in project and management, diploma in clerical duties, diploma in investment management and diploma in human resource management

Elements of law

Elements of Law is a unit offered in diploma in supply chain management to equip learners with the right attitudes, knowledge and skills needed in the area of labor laws. It enables them to understand the Kenyan labor laws and apply them in business contexts.

Financial accounting

This unit teaches trainees the fundamentals of financial accounting from the ground up. Trainees will learn how to prepare a balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement, analyze financial statements, and calculate and interpret critical ratios. Students will also learn the role of managerial judgment in choosing accounting estimates and methods

ICT

ICT refers to all communication technologies, including the internet, wireless networks, cell phones, computers, software, middleware, video-conferencing, social networking, and other media applications and services. This unit aims to equip trainees with basic knowledge of ICT.

Supply chain management and purchasing principles

Supply Chain Management and Purchasing Principles is a unit offered to diploma in supply chain management students in business related courses to equip them with the right attitudes, knowledge and skills to be able to perform purchasing and distribution functions effectively in an organization.

Warehousing operation

This unit is structured to prepare students in warehouse operations with a fundamental understanding of the supply chain. Trainees will review the physical, technological, process, and safety considerations of warehouse/distribution operations. Additionally, trainees will learn about facility configuration, storage and handling techniques
