QUANTITATIVE METHODS UNIT: Quantitative methods emphasize objective measurements and the statistical, mathematical, or numerical analysis of data collected through polls, questionnaires, and surveys, or by manipulating pre-existing statistical data using computational techniques. During the sitting of the KNEC examination of this unit candidates are always advised to have geometrical sets and scientific calculators.

This topic trainees will learn; introduction to data and data collection, measurement scales and types of data, collecting primary data and collecting secondary data

Sampling procedures

This topic trainees will learn; introduction to sampling procedures, statistical inference, sampling, sampling methods and choice of sampling methods

Tabulating and graphing frequency distribution

This topic trainees will learn; introduction to Tabulating and graphing frequency distribution, frequency distributions, class limits and class intervals, cumulative and relative frequency distribution, ways of presenting frequency distributions and presenting cumulative frequency distribution.

Measures of location

This topic trainees will learn; introduction to measures of location, use of measures of location, means, medians, quantiles, mode, choice of measures and functions, equations and graphs.

Measures of dispersion

This topic trainees will learn; introduction to measures of dispersion, range, quartile deviation, standard deviation and variance, coefficient of variation and skewness.

Index numbers

This topic trainees will learn; introduction to index numbers, simple( unweighted) index numbers, weighted index numbers (Laspeyres and Paasche Indices), Fisher’s Ideal Index, Formulae, Quantity or Volume Index Numbers, Changing the Index Base Year and Index Numbers in Practice.
